Water source & treatment
Durham owns and operates the Whitby treatment and distribution systems. Its 2025 report describes Lake Ontario intake water passing through screening, coagulation, flocculation and filtration before chlorine disinfection. Fluoride is also added. The report separates Whitby results from those for Oshawa and Ajax; those tables should not be mixed. Durham’s separate household guidance discusses mineral hardness and seasonal earthy or musty tastes associated with changes in the lake.
What this means for your home
For a Whitby home, start with the concern you actually notice: mineral deposits, a chlorine taste, or a seasonal change in flavour. Record when it occurs and whether it affects every tap. Velora can assess the incoming water and plumbing before recommending treatment. A regional result is a system measurement, not a test of your kitchen tap. Sudden pressure loss, persistent discolouration or a supply advisory should also be checked through Durham’s water service channels.
Profile scope
